Block Walk Gets People Moving To Promote Exercise and Heart Health

Desert Valley Medical Group and Inter Valley Health Plan presented the 6th annual Block Walk for Heart Health on Friday, April 11.

Several hundred participants filled the Desert Valley Charitable Foundation parking lot, participating in pre-walk warmup exercises, and gearing up for the 1-1/2 mile walk around one city block.

A welcome talk was given by Desert Valley Hospital and Medical Group CEO Fred Hunter.

Snacks and water were provided so walkers had plenty of energy and were well hydrated.

A vendor fair featured games, health screenings, refreshments and health education information.

Members of radio station Route 103 and CBS Sports radio stations provided the sound system and played energizing music.

Walkers took off from the foundation and quickly traveled the route to the Inter Valley Health Plan Education Center on Hesperia Road.

Once there, they had a short rest, received more snacks and water, then took off up Bear Valley Road back to Desert Valley Charitable Foundation. Prizes, music and entertainment concluded the 2014 Block Walk.

The annual event brings attention to the need for exercising to maintain good health and prevent heart disease.
