Two Separate Emergency Fairs Help People Prepare for Disasters

The 5th annual Shake, Rattle and Roll Emergency Preparedness Fair was held on April 12 in Apple Valley.

The event included presentations, information booths, community displays, and a free hot dog lunch cooked by firefighters.

Children were treated to an educational puppet show, after which they were given kid-sized backpacks used to collect emergency prep items offered by vendors.

Hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the event featured a wealth of information to help keep area residents stay safe.

An earthquake simulation room allowed people to feel what it would be like to be sitting in their living room during “the Big One.”

Information on CERT training,, plus search and rescue was offered.

A Kids’ Health & Safety emergency preparedness fair, hosted by the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and Sunset Hills Memorial Park on April 5.

Activities included fire safety and drowning prevention demonstrations, fingerprinting, a blood drive, horseback rides, face painting, therapy dogs and more.

Food vendors, fire trucks, and a Mercy Air helicopter, sheriff vehicles and trailer, search and rescue, and other displays were all fun for the kids to experience.
