On April 24, the Victor Valley Community Services Council received a donated bus from Victor Valley Transit Authority, during a ceremony at the agency’s office.
The bus will be used to transport seniors and individuals with disabilities who qualify for the service.
According to Midge Nicosia, executive director of VVCSC, the bus was part of a $67,325 grant from the San Bernardino Associated Governments.
Until now, VVCSC volunteers have been using their own vehicles to transport seniors, making about 600 trips and traveling 18,000 miles per year.
Some seniors are too frail to wait long periods for a bus to take them to or from doctor’s appointments.
They may need assistance to ride publicly or get on and off a bus. It can be a safety and health issue for them.
Clients in Apple Valley, Victorville, Phelan, Hesperia, Adelanto, parts of Lucerne Valley and Barstow will be able to get rides if eligible.
