The Oro Grande School District celebrated the dedication of the new Bettie James Kindergarten Complex on September 12.
Principal Gene Tityus welcomed a crowd of people, including many of James’ family members, chamber of commerce members, local dignitaries and other attendees.
School Superintendent Heather Griggs, Board President Joshua Garcia and Mrs. Barbara Dew (James’ daughter) all made remarks about the lifelong commitment of teacher Bettie James.
James was remembered as a teacher, educator, role model, advisor and friend. She spent 30 years of making sure each child received a quality education. She was concerned that each student could read upon graduating from kindergarten.
