Veteran Dick Suhay aka “the Polka Pilot” brought his charm, wit and talent to the High Desert for two weekends in October.
He first appeared at the Hesperia Moose Lodge on October 11, for a night of German food, fun and dancing.
On October 18th he was at the Overland Meat in Apple Valley, for a third year visit.
Dick began playing the piano accordian at age 5 in his hometown of Euclid, Ohio.
Influenced by Frankie Yankovic and other pioneers of Slovenian and Cleveland style polkas, Dick started his own band at age 18.
He joined the U.S. Air Force where he spent 26 years as a fighter pilot.
Now retired, he has a polka band and lives in southern California, and still remains close to his musical roots in Cleveland.
He has many recordings and his last album contains seven songs he wrote, including: Polka Baby.
Now in his early 80’s, Dick continues to bring enjoyment to many with what he calls “happy music.”
