High Desert Marines Celebrated 239th Birthday in Hesperia

The High Desert Marines presented the 239th United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball Celebration on November 8 and the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Hesperia.

Marines from the organization stood at attention as they waited for the cake to arrive, after which a piece was cut and given to both the oldest and the youngest Marines present.

Congressman Paul Cook spoke about how Marines take care of each other, and that it is not an organization for the faint of heart.

He also validated the need for the Marines and other armed forces, as he noted that “there are bad people out there and we need to have the Marines.”

Cook received a hand-made framed plaque and Mary from Quilts of Valor presented him with a quilt.

Over the past 10 years, 108,000 quilts have been awarded.
