It was a scene out of a Great Gatsby movie, when the Sunset Hills Children’s Foundation held its first Bootlegger’s Basement fundraising event on Saturday, July 18.
Business people from all over the High Desert came out in droves, dressed in their best gangster and flapper attire.
Some fancy cocktails, like Sidecars, Bees Knees and The French were served, and the hors d’oeuvres served included smoked salmon roulades, and Thai chicken satays, among other delicacies.
Entertainment was provided by Fernando Harkless with Fernando & Spice, and the FunPhoto Shoppe was there to take some glam photos. The Havana Cigar Club Girls paid a visit during the event.
Gambling was rampant, with Angela’s Casino bringing out all the gaming tables for the crowd’s enjoyment.
When a child loses a parent through death, their world is torn apart. Since 2007, the foundation has awarded up to $20,000 to a deserving student who has experienced such a loss or a hardship, yet is still driven to better their lives and reach their educational dreams. This year’s Sunset Hills college scholarship recipient was Devendra Gidvani.
The next event on the horizon for the charity will be the 10th annual Ryan Cambridge Memorial Golf Classic on October 11.
