Curly’s Cowboy Christmas Held at the Historic Apple Valley Inn

The 14th annual Curly’s Cowboy Christmas dinner and show was held on December 12 at the Historic Apple Valley Inn.

The event is a tribute to the memory of singer/songwriter Jim “Curly” Musgrave who passed away in 2009. The Academy of Western Artists (AWA) gave Curly the Will Rogers award for Male Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer in 2003.

Belinda Gail, a long-time singing partner of Curly’s performed during the event, accompanied by her husband Robert Lorbeer.

Local characters attending included members of the Double R Bar Regulators from Lucerne Valley and Dale “Gabby” Park of Oro Grande, who worked for the Roy Rogers’ family.

Happy Trails Children’s Foundation Executive Director Joel Dortch acted as M.C., assisted by auctioneer Cliff Emmich.

The event is held annually to raise funds for the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, one of the charities supported by Roy Rogers, who had a more positive influence on the lives of boys and girls growing up in America in the 40’s and 50’s than any other single individual. The foundation supports the Cooper Home for abused boys.
